Most recognized for: Although skilled at multiple stringed instruments, he was best known for his violin playing… as exemplified in his 1979 hit “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.” Not to be confined to the simpler themes of Southern redneckery, Charlie also liked to dabble in politics… penning several patriotic songs about ‘Merica, her flag, and what happens to the dirty SOB’s who mess with either one.
