Gale Sayers –
NFL HOF’er, writer, Kansas Comet.
May 30, 1943 – September 23, 2020.
Aged 77 years.
Most recognized for: In his rookie year, he set a league record by scoring 22 touchdowns… with 6 in a single game. His autobiography – which detailed a deep friendship with cancer-stricken Chicago teammate Brian Piccolo – became the basis for the made-for-TV tear-jerker “Brian’s Song.” But a history of concussions combined with a case of dementia left him unable to carry the tune anymore.
