James Thurston “Jim” Nabors –
Actor, singer, Hollywood hayseed.
June 12, 1930 – November 30, 2017.
Aged 87 years.
Most recognized for: Nabors is best known for playing Gomer Pyle… Mayberry’s slack-jawed mechanic turned marine corp embarrassment. After “Andy Griffith” and “U.S.M.C,” Jim was all over the television throughout the 70’s, even hosting a few variety/talk shows of his own. His longest running appearance, however, was at the Indy 500. For a 40+ year run, they wheeled his goofy ass into the Brickyard to sing the Indiana state anthem before the race… a confusing tradition.
