Rush to Judgement

in Hits & Misses by
“So, if I’m such an vile, homophobic monster,
how on earth did I get Sir Elton John
to be my personal wedding singer?
Riddle me that,
Mr. Mayor Pete’s wife.”

Rush Limbaugh
Broadcaster, conservative, provocateur.
January 12, 1951 – February 17, 2021.
Aged 70 years.

Most recognized for: Love him or hate him, he asked the tough questions… like, Have you honestly ever seen an attractive feminist? What’s so great about Donovan McNabb? By ‘no,’ you mean ‘yes,’ right? Heard any good AIDS jokes lately? or Brother, can you spare Vicodin? We’re paraphrasing, of course. Regardless of whether you called his content news, editorial, hate speech, or good old fashioned entertainment, Mr. Limbaugh is definitely off the air.

Most recognized for: What’s a crippled porn king to do when he can’t jerk his gherkin? Fight for your 1st amendment rights, of course. A lightning rod for litigation, his irreverent courtroom antics included calling Sandra Day O’Connor “a token cu#t” and wearing the American flag as a diaper (for which he was jailed 6 months.) All in the name of free speech… and preserving his ability to sell you a bongo mag.

With depictions of bikers and pirates dismembering and raping each other, his brand of gruesome insanity regularly shocked colleagues, who viewed his style as a boundary, not to be crossed. But years after being rendered nearly mute from brain surgery, Mr. Wilson’s doodling days have finally drawn to a close.

The Sound of Silence

in Hits & Misses by

Ok… how about “Star Trek VI?” That was a real sh!tball. He won an Oscar in 2010 for “Beginners,” which no one saw. But more recently, he played the dead guy in the star-studded whodunit “Knives Out!,” which turned out to be good practice for his performance aeternam.

He was later hospitalized for swallowing a chicken bone, but eventually, prostate cancer dealt the final blow.

The Bell’s Toll

toward matching that number with
male partners as well.”

Dustin Diamond

January 7, 1977 – February 1, 2021.
Aged 44 years.

Most recognized for: After spending 13 years playing TV nerd Screech Powers, Dustin wasted no time getting on with his career. He did some stand-up, a few movies, wrestled for a minute, produced/released his own sex tape, published a sordid “Saved by the Bell” tell-all book, appeared on a few drama-drenched celeb-reality shows, and was incarcerated for stabbing someone in a bar on Christmas. You know… the typical former child-star sh!t. But after a surprise cancer diagnosis, Mr. Diamond’s personal circus suddenly screeched to a halt.

Both received many awards over their careers… Cloris from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences… and Cicely from the NAACP. Regardless of who won what, these two Television Hall of Famers have finally seen their last rerun.

Down Like a Clown

in Hits & Misses by

He saw 25 All-star games, broke Babe Ruth’s home run record, and was later awarded the Medal of Freedom from George Bush Jr. But just 2 weeks after getting his COVID vaccination, “Hammerin’ Hank” quietly stole home.

Though he stepped away from the mic in nearly a decade ago, his highness has finally quit talking.

Parole Denied

in Hits & Misses by
“If you think I look ridiculous now,

Phil Spector
Songwriter, record producer, freakshow.
December 26, 1939 – January 16, 2021.
Aged 81 years.

Most recognized for: A legendary hitmaker, his influence on music is as difficult to summarize as it is impossible to quantify. Commonly referred to as the “Wall of Sound” approach, his use of the studio as an additional instrument added a trademarked depth to his recordings. But quirky genius in the studio translated to outright insanity outside the studio. While serving a 19yrs to life sentence for shooting an actress in the mouth, he caught the C-bug and went from sharp to flat.
